Safeguarding and Support

The health, safety and welfare of all the people who work or learn at our school are of fundamental importance. Our ethos is one of protection and trust. There is a strong bond of mutual respect between adults and the pupils within this school.

We aim to provide a safe, secure and pleasant working environment for everyone. The Governing Body, along with Norfolk County Council, takes responsibility for protecting the health and safety of all the children and members of staff.

Our pupils understand how to ask for help and who they can go to, and they are confident that their concerns will be dealt with appropriately.

Our pupils understand how to ask for help and who they can go to, and they are confident that their concerns will be dealt with appropriately. Our school council representatives are currently in the process of developing a child friendly safeguarding policy.

Who are our Safeguarding team?

All schools must have a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) onsite or who are contactable at all times. DSLs are members of staff appointed to take lead responsibility for safeguarding issues within the school.

The DSLs in our school are easily recognizable by their yellow lanyards

Operation Encompass

At Fairstead Primary School the Health and Safety, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children is of paramount importance. In order to do this a wide range of measures are put in place.

We are working in partnership with Norfolk Constabulary and Norfolk Children’s Services to identify and provide appropriate support to pupils who have experienced domestic violence in their household; this scheme is called Operation Encompass.

In order to achieve this, Norfolk Children’s Advice and Duty Service will share police information of all domestic incidents where one of our pupils has been present with the Designated Safeguarding Lead(s). On receipt of any information, the Designated Safeguarding Lead will decide on the appropriate support the child requires, this could be silent or overt.

All information sharing and resulting actions will be undertaken in accordance with the ‘Norfolk Joint Agency Protocol for Domestic Abuse – Notifications to Schools’.

We will record this information and store this information in accordance with the record keeping procedures outlined in our Safeguarding Policy.

Children’s Advice and Duty Service (CADS)
